Weight Training for Personal Fitness
Recommended Grade Level: 10-12
Course Description: Weight Training 1 is designed to give students the opportunity to learn weight training concepts and techniques used for obtaining optimal physical fitness. Students will benefit from comprehensive weight training and cardiorespiratory endurance activities. Students will learn the basic fundamentals of weight training, aerobic training, and overall fitness training and conditioning. Weight Training 2 is designed to provide each student with the knowledge needed to understand the importance of strength and fitness training. Students will understand the importance of setting goals for personal improvement and achievement and will leave the class with a lifelong understanding of how to maintain adequate physical fitness for a healthy lifestyle. Students will be empowered to make wise choices, meet chanllenges, and develop positive behaviors in fitness, wellness, and movement activity for a lifetime. Topics Covered: Core Lifts: Bench Press, Squats and Power Cleans Sub-Core Lifts: Incline Press, Dead Lift and Power Snatch Auxiliary Lifts: All lifts to supplement the Core and Sub-Core Lifts Total Body Conditioning: Core, Super-Setting for Cardiovascular Fitness, Weight Plate Workout for Warmups as well as Dynamic and Static Stretching. Major Assignments: Formative Grade = 50%-Performance/participation score reflecting preparation for class, active participation and observable effort, 2)-Written quizzes on terms such as cardiovascular, muscles, stretching of specific muscle groups, etc. 3)-Performance grade assessing sport skill acquisition such as form in tennis, golf, dribbling, catching, etc. Summative Grade= 50%-Summative assessment should be given at the end of a learning phase or unit to document growth and mastery. 25% of the summative grade should reflect psychomotor(skills) development and 25% should reflect cognitive assessment. More than one summative test should be given each six weeks to determine this grade. There will be a minimum of 2 grades each week and a minimum of 12 grades each six weeks. *Since this is a participation class, absences need to be made up. Makeup days will be on Monday’s through Thursday’s, no later than 8:00am in the weight room. One of the coaches’ will be there to sign in the student and to give the student a makeup workout to receive credit. |
