Grade Level 10-12 Course Description: With the rise in budgets, streaming and even social media - film as a medium has become a touchpoint in all of our lives. Everyone engages with film media in some way. Whether it be with the goal of acting, directing or simply better understanding films as a viewer, everyone who takes this course stands to benefit. In this class, we will first explore the technical aspects of films such as camera angles and cinematography. You will gain an understanding of all that goes into creating a film from behind the scenes. The second semester covers the history of cinema and a wide range of film genres. Examples of genres covered in this class are Action Adventure, Horror, Comedy, and more. You will be able to trace the origins of film to trends in modern movies. We will examine how the most popular films broke down barriers. Success in this class will be based on active participation, understanding of vocabulary and core concepts and film analysis.
