Communication Applications
(This course is a requirement for the graduation plan.)
Grade Level: 9-12
Course description: One of the most important tasks in education is developing effective communication skills in students. Every aspect of your lives reflects some form of communication. Communication cannot be avoided regardless of your intention. We communicate verbally, nonverbally, interpersonally, in groups, and in public settings. Successfully completing this course will be based on your ability to communicate effectively with others in a variety of settings. Your grade will also be determined in part by your ability to participate in classroom activities.
Topics covered: the basic communication model, types and purposes of communication, verbal and nonverbal communication, listening, cultural awareness, interpersonal communication, persuasion and group communication
Major assignments: speeches, group presentations and tests
