AP Human Geography
Recommended Grade Level: 9-10
Course Description: This course introduces students to the systematic study of patterns and processes that have shaped human understanding, use, and alteration of Earth’s surface. Students employ spatial concepts and landscape analysis to examine socioeconomic organization and its environmental consequences. They also learn about the methods and tools geographers use in their research and applications. AP Human Geography is a true social studies course, it involves very little "history" and focuses on studying what patterns we see in the world, where they happen, and why they happen in those places. In order to answer those questions, we learn about intriguing topics such as population, migration, ethnicity, gender, why economic conditions are vastly different around the world, climate change, sustainability, and culture. There are 7 units in AP Human Geography:
Students may earn college credit through the College Board AP Examination which is offered in May of each year. The fee for the AP exam is the responsibility of the student. This course may be used as a substitute for World Geography Studies. |
