AP Calculus AB
Recommended Grade Level: 11-12
Course Description: AP Calculus AB is a two-semester course, which presents calculus concepts through discovery, application, and technology. The AP Calculus AB course emphasizes a multi-representational approach to calculus, with concepts, results, and problems being expressed geometrically, numerically, analytically, and verbally. The major components of the course are behavior of functions, limits, differentiation, and integration.
A variety of instructional methods, supplementary materials, manipulatives, technology and software will be used to develop and maintain calculus skills.
Method of Instruction: Classes will be taught using lectures, directed practice, individual practice, group work, student exploration with and without the graphing calculator and student demonstration. Emphasis is placed on accurately expressing mathematics in written form and on communicating the concepts of calculus verbally.
Prerequisites: Pre-Calculus
Skills for Success:
*Solid background in Algebra 2 and Pre-Calculus
*Intrinsically motivated to study outside of class
Offered as Dual Credit
