PE Skill-Based Lifetime Activities
Recommended Grade Level: 9-12 (Graduation Requirement)
Course Description: The purpose of Physical Education is to give you some daily exercise and more importantly, develop lifelong skills and knowledge of fitness, nutrition and well being through physical, mental, and social development. You will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of team and individual activities and activities designed to help you improve and maintain your fitness level. Topics Covered: The list we choose from: Circuit Training, Flex Core Module, Cardio High Tech, Frisbee Activities, Fencing, Lacrosse, Rock Climbing, Orienteering, Live to Cycle, Lift to Live, Tennis Activities, Omnikin Games & Kinball, Move to Radical Fitness, BOSU, Golf, Floor Hockey, Heart Rate Monitors, Team Handball, Hop Sports, Mountain Biking, Dance, Functional Fitness and Archery. Major Assignments: Formative Grade=50%- Performance/Participation score reflecting preparation for class, active participation and observable effort, 2)- Written quizzes on terms such as cardiovascular, muscles, stretching of specific muscle groups, etc. 3)Performance grade assessing sport skill acquisition such as form in tennis, golf, dribbling, catching, etc Summative Grade=50%-Summative assessment should be given at the end of a learning phase or unit to document growth and mastery. 25% of the summative grade should reflect psychomotor(skills) development and 25% should reflect cognitive assessment. More than one summative test should be given each six weeks to determing this grade. There will be a minimum of 2 grades each week and a minimum of 12 grades each six weeks.. *Since this is a participation class, absences need to be made up. Makeup days will be Monday through Thursday no later than 8:00 AM in the weight room. One of the coaches will be there to sign in the student and to give the student a makeup workout to receive credit. |
